Strangers are anyone you or your children do not know. They can be men women and other children.
- Some people may use other children to lure YOUR child away.
All children should
know and be able to write their full address, home phone number and if possible, your cell phone number.
- Just in case they are ever lost.
Teach your children to say loudly and quickly; "HELP! This is not my parent!"
- If anyone ever grabs your child, they need to be able to scream this. Generally, people seeing a child acting up or yelling in public may ignore them.
Have a family password or code word tht only the family knows.
- In the event that someone approaches your child and says; your mom has had an accident or an emergency and she told me to pick you up. Before going with them, this person must tell your child the password or your child should not go anywhere with them.
Discuss with your child what to do if you are ever delayed.
- You are not there to pick them up from school. Do they know to notify their school office that you are not there?
- No one is home when they get home and the doors are locked. Do they know which neigbors homes to go to and where NOT TO GO?
When arranging play dates for your children, know who will be in the home during the play date. Know the people and their ages.
- Are there firearms or weapons in the home? Many unfortunate accidents occur when curious young ones find weapons.
If they have a pet (i.e. dog) have you seen the pet interact with your child?
- Be aware many dogs react differently when they feel threatened or protective of their owners or their territory.
We teach these tactics and more to our students regularly!
